Primary Objective: The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the upkeep and repair of the company's fleet of vehicles and heavy machinery. This includes a variety of technical tasks, troubleshooting, and testing to ensure optimal performance and safety.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience as a field mechanic in a construction environment.
- Must possess personal tools necessary for the job.
- Extensive knowledge of repairing construction-related equipment, including arrow boards, pickup trucks, dump trucks (1 ton to 7 ton), crew trucks, skid steers, hydraulic cranes, backhoes, jackhammers, and clay spades.
- Proficiency in electrical, hydraulic, and diesel repair.
- Welding and fabrication skills are advantageous.
- Fluency in English, both verbal and written, is preferred; Spanish is a plus.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of DOT inspections is a plus.
- Class A or B commercial driver's license is a plus.
- Must pass background, drug/alcohol, and MVR screening processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Results-oriented and able to interact effectively at all levels.
- Ability to work as an effective team member and adapt to organizational changes.
- Capable of mentoring junior staff and facilitating departmental growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment both in the yard and in the field.
- Troubleshoot diesel, electrical, chassis, hydraulic, and mechanical issues.
- Work overtime and weekends as needed.
- Document repairs through the work order process daily.
- Handle vehicles and equipment with care to ensure longevity and functionality.
- Maintain accurate records of time, parts, and supplies used during repairs.
- Foster a positive work environment with co-workers and management.
- Ensure a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety standards.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and adhere to the Company's Alcohol and Drug-Free Policy.
- Ensure reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds unassisted.
- Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, bend, see, hear, and communicate clearly.
- Requires manual dexterity for reaching and lifting mechanical equipment.
Work Conditions:
- Frequent exposure to outdoor elements.
- Reasonable accommodations may be provided to differently-abled individuals to perform the essential functions of the job.
