Location: Remote (Must have own desktop; laptops are not sufficient and will not be provided)


Position Type: Full-time


Job Duties:



  • Accurately abstract data from medical records for all Trauma Service patients, ensuring proper assignment of Abbreviated Injury Scoring, Injury Severity Scoring, and ICD-10 codes.


  • Abstract trauma cases, including ICU, complex cases, and all trauma deaths, in accordance with Title 22, American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma guidelines, and internal protocols.


  • Maintain a 95% or greater accuracy rate in data abstraction.


  • Ensure timely abstraction within 60 days of patient discharge 80% of the time.


  • Maintain coding accuracy by correctly interpreting, analyzing, and applying official coding guidelines and principles to each trauma case.


  • Achieve and maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% or greater.


  • Assist in identifying and completing performance improvement activities.


  • Assist with exporting registry data for national (National Trauma Data Bank), state (State of California research studies), local (Coastal Valley EMS Agency reports), and ACS standards to ensure compliance with Level II Trauma Center status and internal requirements.


Requirements:



  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Trauma Registrar at a Level I or II trauma center (5 years preferred).


  • Completion of a Trauma Registry Course.


  • Certification in the most recent version of the AAAM's Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) course.


  • Certification in an ICD-10 course or an ICD-10 refresher course within the past 5 years.


  • Experience with Epic.


  • Experience with DI-V5.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) certification (required after 2 years of working as a Trauma Registrar).


  • Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) certification.


  • IRR rating.
