Job Title: Payroll Manager

Location: Fully Remote (Must live in Los Angeles, Orange or San Bernardino County)

Pay Rate: Up to $45/hr

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Payroll Manager to join our team in Los Angeles, CA. This fully remote role offers the flexibility to work from anywhere. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Workday and a strong background in payroll management, particularly within educational institutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for school managers, principals, and Home Office staff regarding day-to-day payroll operations.

  • Manage full-cycle payroll processing from start to finish, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

  • Prepare, process, and review payroll reports for completeness and compliance.

  • Ensure timely processing of payroll changes, adjustments, and terminations.

  • Verify wages and deductions for each employee's paycheck per pay period.

  • Send accounting liability and month-end reports.

  • Issue and calculate wire transfer and manual payroll check requests accurately.

  • Maintain and archive all payroll records, including reports, check vouchers, quarterly and annual reports, and tax returns.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve payroll discrepancies and develop effective strategies.

  • Support and develop associates with ticket management, efficient payroll processing, and relationship-building with school and Home Office staff.

  • Oversee the ticket management system by reviewing, researching, and resolving escalated tickets promptly.

  • Review and submit monthly STRS and PERS reports, ensuring compliance and conducting necessary research and corrections.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.

  • Perform special projects and other duties as requested by the Payroll Director, Vice President of Fiscal Strategy, and Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in payroll management, with specific experience using Workday.

  • Strong understanding of payroll processes and compliance requirements.

  • Must have experience with Workday.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
