Location: Manchester / Lancashire (hybrid working arrangement)

LHH Recruitment Solutions are instructed on a rare General Counsel opportunity to head up the legal team in a leading telecommunications provider. With a commitment to providing innovative and reliable services, they have established themselves as a trusted name in the industry and are looking to add a like-minded, experienced senior lawyer to their organisation.


Reporting to the CFO, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the legal strategy across the organisation. You'll be a key business partner, working to comprehensively lead and strengthen the in-house legal team, manage risk for the organisation and provide strategic advice to the board and other senior leaders.


This is a significant leadership position that requires strong legal acumen, commercial pragmatism, and the ability to nurture senior stakeholder relationships. Key responsibilities will include:


  • Develop and implement the legal strategy, policies, and procedures of the organisation, ensuring they are aligned to business goals and objectives.
  • Provide expert legal advice and support on a broad range of matters, including commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, IP, corporate governance, data protection, and employment.
  • Lead a team of lawyers (ranging in experience), providing support and ongoing development, conducting PDRs etc.
  • Provide regular briefings and advice to the board on a variety of legal matters.
  • Support on standard company secretarial activities as/when required.
  • Instruct external legal counsel when necessary and ensure external spend / budgets are managed appropriately.

We're seeking candidates who have:


  • Qualified as a Solicitor or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience practising in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal department. Previous experience working at GC / Head of Legal level is strongly desirable.
  • Experience of working within technology / telecommunications / software would be very advantageous.
  • Proven record in providing strategic legal advice to senior management and successfully managing complex legal matters.
  • Excellent negotiation, contract, and analytical skills.
  • Sound business judgement and the ability to balance legal risks with business objectives.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels of the organisation.
