Compliance Specialist H/F - Pharmaceutical company based in Canton Fribourg


We are seeking a Trade Compliance Specialist to support our import/export operations. In this role, you will collaborate with Corporate Logistics and Compliance departments, perform export compliance screening using SAP Global Trade Services (GTS), and manage shipments with export restrictions. Additionally, you’ll handle daily information requests from Customs Brokers, maintain compliance procedures, and assist with import product codes.



Missions :



  • Assigns HTS classifications, Export Control Classification (ECCN), requests Other Government Agency (OGA) import product codes necessary for importation and assists in the country of origin determination for manufactured and purchased products imported and exported by the company
  • Maintains and assists with implementation of the company export and import compliance procedures and work instructions
  • Subject matter expert in one or multiple areas of the law such as HTS, ECN, Origin, Valuation, Free Trade Agreements
  • Handles daily information requests from Customs Brokers for import clearance of products and materials, administers import/export recordkeeping requirements
  • Supports projects focused on improving business operations and processes in the EMEA region, coordinates with Customer Service and logistics to troubleshoot problem orders/shipments
  • Responsible for auditing customs brokerage and shipment transactions and files
  • Develops presentations and effectively communicate results with recommended action plans to management
  • Uses data analysis/modeling to create new reports, troubleshoots and modifies existing reports including Target KPIs, commodity indices, cost savings opportunities, etc, partner on initiatives to support the creation of new reports, metrics and dashboards based on business needs, troubleshoots, reports on and tests new system/tool functionality
  • Acts as a liaison between end-users, IT and other cross functional teams and professionals in the analysis, design, configuration, testing and maintenance of systems to ensure optimal operational performance, supports internal audit procedures
  • Provides necessary compliance training to operational personnel
  • Provides recommendations and implements improvements to trade compliance management
  • Responsible for analyzing and interpreting export and import regulations and provides risks assessments and advice related to business activities.
  • Identifies and develops business process to address compliance risks
  • Maintains awareness of industry and market trends through ongoing research


Profile :



  • Min. 5 years of experience in a similar position, experienced working in bio-pharma, medical or life science related companies
  • Knowledge of trade compliance regulations in more than one country
  • Advanced quantitative skills with proficiency in data analysis (SAP/MS Access) modeling (MS Excel) and presenting (MS PowerPoint), advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and tools such as PowerBI
  • Expert knowledgeable about how to qualify items under various Free Trade agreements, Customs Reconciliation & Duty Reductions Program
  • Skill in creating statistical reporting, including skill in composing logical, detailed and analytical reports, ability to create presentations and present to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Advanced skills in product classification - Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Dual-Use classification (ECN)
  • Demonstrated experience in working in cross functional teams driving, developing and implementing Customs related procedures and work instructions
  • Multi-lingual preferred
