THE OPPORTUNITY
Our client is in search of an experienced manager to lead a team of manufacturing engineers providing direction throughout each of their manufacturing facilities on automation, manufacturing engineering best practices, process improvements, testing standardization, layouts, and material flow. The individual will assume responsibility for bringing a culture of innovation to the manufacturing processes and methods to ensure consistent implementation of these systems across all plants globally. The next 24 months will be an exciting time with several expansion and new plant projects underway.
KEY DELIVERABLES
u Lead global innovation and modernization in manufacturing processes and automation, enhancing operational efficiencies in machining, robotic welding, assembly, painting, e-coating, and hydrotesting.
u Design sustainable automation and manufacturing processes to enhance energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
u Standardize manufacturing processes across all global plants, including digital tracking, maintenance systems, and preventive maintenance (PM) to optimize capacity utilization and processes.
u Oversee manufacturing infrastructure development for new plants and manage transitions for existing facilities.
u Facilitate the transition of new products from design to manufacturing to increase speed to market.
u Collaborate with engineering and value stream teams during product design stages, conducting DFx reviews, and offering recommendations.
u Ensure the effectiveness of all global test rigs, including hardware, firmware, and software.
u Align global manufacturing engineering teams to ensure consistency of processes across facilities.
u Develop best practices and work instructions for each product line within each plant that streamline processes, reduce product variation, and improve cost-efficiency and process tact times.
u Lead the development of new processes and manufacturing methods with a focus on capacity improvements and efficiency.
u Manage the job knowledge requirements program, time studies, routing, and work instruction updates.
u Manage all aspects of annual capital expenditures (budgeting, planning/specification, business case development, sourcing, vendor negotiations, project management, installation, and commissioning).
u Champion waste elimination by consolidating ideas from all plants, tracking costs, and overseeing implementation.
u Engage direct reports and matrix-reporting teams in projects to enhance collaboration and effectiveness.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CAPABILITIES
u Engineering degree, preferably in Mechanical, Industrial, or Mechatronics Engineering. P.Eng. required.
u 15+ years of experience in manufacturing processes, plant engineering, and distribution operations in precision-driven, custom-order manufacturing environments.
u Extensive domain knowledge and proven experience in industrial automation within a configure-to-order manufacturing environment.
u Strong lean manufacturing expertise, demonstrated through successful projects impacting SQDIC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Cost).
u Knowledge of Continuous Improvement principles and general practices.
u Superior experience in Manufacturing Engineering process development and implementation in a global environment.
u 5 years of machine shop experience, specifically in CNC machining and optimization.
u Experience working in agile and matrix organizational structures, collaborating closely with product management to implement new and enhanced products.
u Creative problem-solving skills and conflict management within both centralized and matrix organizational structures.
u Ability to simplify complex problems, conduct root cause analysis, and provide clear, well-considered recommendations.
u Strong team-oriented leadership skills with a commanding presence and a bias for action.
u Self-directed, capable of working autonomously and collaboratively, with a strong focus on results.
u Ability to communicate openly and authentically in all situations.
